Your data stays yours

Last updated June 28, 2026

Your habit tracking stays on your device by default. The Accountability Community is optional. It requires an account and syncs only the data you choose to share to our servers. You can turn it off and delete your account at any time.

Overview

Buck a Month Habits is a habit tracking app built on a simple principle: your personal data belongs to you. The core app works offline and keeps your tracking on your device. Separately, we offer an optional Accountability Community. When you choose to use it, you create an account and the data you decide to share is stored on our servers so it can sync and be shared. This policy covers both.

What stays on your device

Unless you turn on the Accountability Community, the following stays in your device's local storage and is not sent to us:

Accounts and the Accountability Community

The Accountability Community is optional and off until you choose to join. When you create an account or use community features, we collect and store the following on our servers:

You decide what to share. Habits you don't share stay on your device. Note that shared track images and profile pictures are served from public links, so anyone you share a link with (or anyone viewing the public community) may be able to see them.

How sharing works

Sharing is always your choice, and each method puts you in control of who can see your data:

When you share, the people you share with may see your habit name, progress, and track image. Only share what you're comfortable others seeing, and remember that once others have seen or saved shared content we can't control what they do with it.

Where your data is stored

Account and community data is stored and processed by Supabase, our hosting and database provider, acting on our behalf. Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted so that, by default, you can only see your own data plus what others have explicitly shared with you. See Supabase's privacy policy for details on their practices.

Third parties we use

We never sell your data or share it with advertisers. We share information only with the service providers that make the app work:

Analytics and advertising

Buck a Month Habits contains no third-party advertising and no advertising-tracking SDKs. We do not sell your information or use your habit data to profile you for ads.

Billing

Buck a Month Habits is a paid app, one dollar a month with a free trial. Payments are processed by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, and your subscription is managed there. We never see or store your payment card details; billing is handled by the platform you subscribed through, subject to its own privacy policy.

Data export and backup

The app provides a built-in JSON export feature so you can back up your on-device data at any time. Exported files are saved to your device and are under your full control. We recommend regular exports to protect against data loss if you change devices or reinstall the app.

Data deletion

You're in control of deleting your data:

When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations. Content you posted publicly or shared into the community may persist for others unless you remove it before deleting your account.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by contacting us.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal bases for processing are: performing our contract with you (to provide the account and community you signed up for), your consent (for optional sharing features), and our legitimate interests (to keep the service secure and working). You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards. If you are a California resident, we do not sell or "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and you will not be treated differently for exercising your rights.

Security

We use industry-standard protections including encryption in transit and access controls so that users can only reach their own data and what has been shared with them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children's privacy

Buck a Month Habits is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. The app contains no advertising, and community features are opt-in. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and revise the date above, and we will provide notice in the app for material changes.
